Abbeville County Historical Society has moved forward with its preservation efforts of the Historical 1888 Queen Anne House built by Statesman General Samuel McGowan.  The photos represent the beginning efforts in restoring the beautiful home which is on the National Register of Historic Places.  This home was considered to be the “finest private residence in the up-country” according to a newspaper account of the day.

Restoration efforts are continuous today.   The home  is presently being painted on the outside.  Today it is one of Abbeville’s Favorite Tourist Attractions.  It is known as Abbeville’s Best Kept Secret.
